Bake Sale - our annual fundraiser

Each year, the Bake Sale is one of our most significant fund raising activities. Featuring a variety of delicious pies, cakes, cookies, breads, and goodies, this event is a great opportunity for our Habersham community to gather and support the Friends of Shanklin efforts at Shanklin Elementary.

The funds raised by this event go towards the programs that Friends of Shanklin sponsors at Shanklin Elementary School. This includes Experiential Learning, Book Giveaways, Emerging Scholars, instructional resources, school uniforms and supplies, tutoring, and volunteer placement.

Saturday, November 9, 2024

11am-1:30pm in the Habersham MarketPlace

Get Ready for the 2024 Bake Sale!

We're excited the 2024 Annual Bake Sale is right around the corner!

In conjunction with the Habersham Artisans, we'll join our talents

with them on Saturday, Nov. 9 for a great day!

As a bonus we'll be selling beautiful 2025 recipe calendars with dishes for every occasion--appetizers, main dishes, desserts--all from Habersham cooks as well as 1-gallon plants (dianthus, snapdragon, and pansies), hanging baskets, handmade birdhouses, and handcrafted seasonal wreathes.

      Bake Something To Sell

Peruse those favorite recipes, then roll up your sleeves and make something we can sell at the FOS Bake Sale! This is the perfect opportunity to share a tasty treat with your neighbors. Cookies, pies, cakes, bars, pastries, pot pies... We want anything you can bake! Whether sweet or savory, it's all about sharing that special something with our community. Right now, all we need to know is what and how much you are making. So get started and fill your kitchen with those wonderful smells!

Check out the Packaging & Delivery   info for the 2024 Bake Sale.

As you prepare your delicious treats, here is some guidance regarding packaging and delivery. You’ll want to make sure items are encased in a way that maximizes safety while supporting how customers will view and buy them during the sale. They should be in a container that is appealing yet minimizes potential damage during display and transport. An attractive presentation will help sell your contribution! Plan to deliver your goodies the day before so items can be priced ahead of time. Please read the following information:

Packaging

  • Labels (new request!):  Please consider attaching a label with kind/type of product and list of ingredients to inform buyers (“Is this raisin or chocolate chip?”) as well as alert those with allergies.

  • Protected material:  Clear plastic containers, see-through boxes, tied bags/baggies, sealed wrap around heavy-duty disposable plates, etc. Be sure items are secure! Walmart, Dollar Tree, and grocery & craft stores have supplies. Avoid dishes we need to return.

  • Suggested quantities

  • Cookies/Brownies/Bars:package in groups of 6 (crafted & seasonally decorated could be sold individually or in pairs)

  • Muffins or cupcakes: package in groups of 4

  • Breads: package each loaf individually

  • Cakes & Pies: package whole, half, or individually in large servings

You may ultimately decide on other portions as items differ based on specialty, size, number, etc.

Delivery

  • Drop off items on Friday, Nov. 8 between Noon - 6pm at 38 James Habersham (blue house at corner of James Habersham and Hollingsworth).                                                                                                        For JSES staff members, we have arranged a pickup time at the school.

We appreciate delivery on Friday as it allows us time to price items in advance.

  • We request that only very large, delicate, or perishable items be delivered direly to the MarketPlace on Saturday, Nov. 9 between 10:00-10:45am. You may want to bring a cooler if your item is perishable. Be aware the area will be blocked off and we want goods delivered and priced before the event begins.

  • We need plenty of time to organize and display everything to encourage buyers; we won’t be able to accommodate early sales.

  • The Bake Sale runs from 11am-1:30pm or until everything sells.

  • In case of rain, the Bake Sale will be held at the Fire Station.

If you have any questions, please call/text Vicki                   at 703-577-7978.

Thank you again for your support. Friends of Shanklin is so very grateful and excited about this event! We’ll see you there!
